The Walther PD380 is a double action / single action pistol cambered in 380acp. This is the newest addition to the Walther line-up and sports some Walther PDP like features!

I have been a Walther fan for a long time and actually my current favorite pistol is the Walther PDP F-Series 4″. So when I realized this new Walther PD380 had some similar characteristics of the Walther PDP, I was excited to say the least!

The ergonomics and texture on this Walther PD380 are excellent in my opinion. When you grip the pistol it just feels natural and comfortable in your hand. The dot type texture provides plenty of grip, while also being smooth on your hand!

The slide has Walther PDP like serrations on them which work very well! The slide on this Walther PD380 is 6.32″ long and is super easy to rack and manipulate. With this pistol being a 380acp, I think that is great as I see the target market to be those that are recoil sensitive.

This pistol is 1.24″ wide at its widest point which will be the ambidextrous safeties on either side. The Walther PD380 does not have a slide stop / slide release on it which I am not a fan of. Most pistols that decide to not have slide release on them do it so they can keep the handgun narrower for concealed carry. However, on this model that could easily have them on there and still be not as wide as the already widest part of the pistol being the safety lever!

The 2 magazines that are included for this Walther PD380 are single stack mags and hold 9 rounds. To me personally this is also a disappointment as the grip as plenty of room for a double stack magazine to fit. With the trends in the concealed carry market, I just do not think it is keeping up and giving the customers what they are looking for in a concealed carry pistol!

Walther has always been known for having great triggers, so my hopes were high that this Walther PD380 would follow that trend. However, I was quickly discouraged when I took started dry firing the pistol. The double action side of the trigger is 10lbs according to Walther specs, however it feels heavier to me and also is just not a very smooth pull. The single action followed the same trend and seems to be a harder break than the 5.6lbs they state in specs. For a close quarters defense pistol I guess it is not a huge deal, however I just had much higher hopes from Walther!

We tested this pistol at the range and had no failures of any kind. Other than the trigger not being what we expected, it shot smooth. The accuracy of the pistol lacked some just again due to the trigger.

Overall, I do not think this is a bad pistol by any means. I just do not personally think it is up to the market trends and what the market is looking for. If Walther would come out with a micro 9 size Walther PDP type pistol , they would have a homerun!
